Once again, Neil Young is gifting us with some previously unreleased rarities. This time, it's an unearthed version of a Zuma-era version of his song "Powderfinger."
While the song was eventually released on 1979's Rust Never Sleeps, Young has included a version recorded in 1975 on his upcoming box set, The Archives Vol. II: 1972-1976. This earlier rendition of "Powderfinger" appears on the set's disc Dune.
This 1975 version of the song was produced by Young and David Briggs, and it featured Frank "Poncho" Sampedro on guitar, Billy Talbot on bass and Ralph Molina on drums.
You can listen to this newly unearthed version of "Powderfinger" over here on the Neil Young Archives site, or check it out below.
Archives Vol. II is set to arrive on November 20. He recently gave us the set's "Homefires" and its "Come and Say You Will."
In addition to the Archives box set, Young will release a 50th anniversary reissue of After the Gold Rush. That will first arrive digitally and on CD on December 11 through Reprise, with a deluxe vinyl box set to follow on March 19.
