Way back in 2007, we expressed concern that DFA signees Holy Ghost! would be forced to undergo a name change because of a legal dispute with their name. Fortunately, the exclamation point in their name must have held up in court, because they're still going strong three years later. In fact, this spring will be their busiest season yet with a new EP and some high-profile tour dates and a bit more remixing activity.
For starters, the band's debut EP Static on the Wire will be released by DFA Records on May 18. On the band's website, they are currently streaming the title track and the new song "Say My Name." As the band point out, the title track also includes a "face melting" guitar solo from Juan Maclean.
As soon as Static on the Wire drops, Holy Ghost! will join their DFA label head James Murphy and his LCD Soundsystem for a North American tour. Along with a three-night stint in New York and various other U.S. dates, the tour will see the band hit up Canada in Toronto and Vancouver. Along with their North American dates, Holy Ghost! will also embark on a European tour in July.
On top of all that activity, Holy Ghost! have recently put their stamp on LCD Soundsystem's "Drunk Girls." The remix can be heard over in our Click Hear section. The band were also among those dressed as pandas for Spike Jonze's riotous "Drunk Girls" video, which can be seen below.
