While Tom Petty's music made headlines this week for an unfortunate reason, the arrival of a new version of "You Don't Know How It Feels" is some better news.

Today, the previously unheard 8-track tape demo of the Wildflowers classic was shared by Petty's daughter, director Adria Petty, on Sirius XM's Tom Petty-themed station. You can hear it below alongside an animated music video from Blaze Ben Brooks and Aaron Hymes.

As Adria explained in an interview on the station, "The family and the band are in a joyful process of discovering the Wildflowers sessions and demos...[We] wanted to share a tiny bit of that with the fans today."

Fans have long been clamouring for a reissue of Petty's Wildflowers, which hasn't seen an official issue on vinyl since its 1994 release and now goes for major money on resale sites like Discogs. An anniversary re-release was reported to be at the centre of a legal dispute between Petty's family members, which was settled last December.

Earlier this week, Petty's family served Donald Trump a cease-and-desist after playing "I Won't Back Down" to the nowhere near sold-out campaign rally crowd in Tulsa, OK.
