Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron have shared new music as Nighttime Boogie Association. You can hear the project's first two tracks, "Long in the Tooth" and "The Path We're On," down below.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, the pair shared that they came together to write material soon after the Chris Cornell tribute concert in January 2019. Sessions began at Hawkins' home not long after the tribute, but work was soon shelved due to other band commitments — not to mention the coronavirus pandemic.

The two soon picked up the work again in a virtual capacity, sharing that "Long in the Tooth" was created from an initial drum machine-and-guitars sketch by Cameron that left Hawkins to write lyrics and continue sculpting its sound.

"He sent me some fun little funky drum machine with some Foghat guitars and I just cut it up in the computer, as we do nowadays, and we just fashioned a song out of it," Hawkins told Rolling Stone of the song "I sent it to Matt and he was like, 'This is really cool.' And I'm like, 'You're gonna put real drums on it, right?' We're two drummers in arguably two of the bigger rock bands on the planet right now, and we're not gonna have real drums on it. That's kinda rad."

"The Path We're On," meanwhile, features lyrics and music written by Cameron, who also roped in some instrumental help from Melvins' Buzz Osborne and Steven McDonald. The pair had appeared on Cameron's solo single "Down the Middle" in April.

Hawkins expressed excitement at Nighttime Boogie Association giving him a chance to work with one of his own favourite drummers.

"He's in my top 10 all-time drummers. He's a fucking legend," Hawkins said of Cameron. "[Dave] Grohl and me will both sit there and go, 'He is the Neil Peart of our generation.' He is that guy who does shit where you're like, 'There's no way I could ever do that.' He's so precise, yet still such a rock drummer. It's hard to do that. I just wanna gush on Matt for awhile."

Cameron adds that Hawkins and himself are "passing demos back and forth and we're hoping to put out more music in the next six to eight months. We definitely have plans to do more in the future, but they're not definite plans."

Hawkins and his Foo Fighters bandmates will release new album Medicine at Midnight in February, and have made plans to play Osheaga in 2021.
