Late-night is so back

Despite the header image at least one publication may have momentarily attached to its coverage, Feist did not win this year's Polaris Music Prize with her shortlisted latest album, Multitudes. However, she did win a slot on the newly returned late-night TV circuit, stopping by Jimmy Fallon's (toxic?) The Tonight Show last night (October 16) for a performance of "Hiding Out in the Open."

The song — one of three initial singles she introduced the long-awaited follow-up to 2017's Pleasure with — is a grounded loop-pedal meditation that reassures with the repeated opening words, "Everybody's got their shit."

Joined by a full band and the trippy layers of live video footage she first introduced in the intimate performance series that preceded the album, Feist delivers a characteristically dynamic rendition, soaring in its chorus wisdom: "Love is not a thing you try to do / It wants to be the thing compelling you."
