Damon Albarn to Score The Boy in the Oak

Putting validity to the old adage "when one door closes, another opens," multi-tasking musician Damon Albarn has signed himself up for yet another project. While his Gorillaz are just wrapping up a busy year of touring behind Plastic Beach and are just a couple of days away from dropping their iPad-recorded album The Fall, it's been suggested that the group may be coming to an end. Clearly main man Albarn won't be resting on his laurels, as the artist has allegedly already started composing a new film score.

Electronic Beats [via The Playlist] reports that Albarn has started working on a score for the short film adaptation of The Boy in the Oak, a children's book that was written by his sister Jessica Albarn. The story centres on a young boy who has discovered that the old oak tree in his back yard is enchanted with spell-casting fairies. Actor Jude Law is attached to narrate the short, while Luke Losey, who has helmed music videos for Orbital and Mercury Rev, is set to direct.

While there is no word yet on what sort of tunes brother Damon will contribute, all should be revealed when screenings start this spring.
