Damon Albarn Hints At the End of Gorillaz
By Josiah HughesBy all accounts, 2010 has been a fruitful year for the eclectic cartoon pop project Gorillaz. The group released their excellent Plastic Beach album and toured North America. More recently, frontman Damon Albarn suggested that another album could materialize soon, and just today (December 6) we reported that Gorillaz were unrolling a new musical advent calendar for the month of December. Sadly, however, the group's run could be coming to an end.

Speaking with WENN, Albarn suggested that he's thinking about throwing in the towel after the Gorillaz world tour comes to a close, saying, "It's been an unqualified success -- bizarrely... But... we always think that when we get to a point where we've achieved something that it's time to stop, don't we?... We'll see how we feel in January [after the tour]. A period of reflection and sobriety... I couldn't keep going at this size and pace."

Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett suggested that, whatever the future holds, the activities of 2010 will never be repeated. "This would be a wonderful point to leave Gorillaz; at the end of this tour, I think... This tour, with these people, is a one-off. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We'll never repeat this."

While 2010 may mark the end of Gorillaz, there's still the rumoured band Albarn started with Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as a possible solo record, meaning we will have no shortage of the Blur frontman in our earbuds for years to come.

Well, Gorillaz are one of the few major pop bands actually making consistently good records -- accessibility and actual artistic merit. It would be too bad if they shut it down. So, like, y'know, I care.

If they do call it quits I thank them for 3 great albums and an awesome show

Personally, I'd lke to see them active for more years to come. I have to admit, I kinda got on the wagon late, but it's on my bucketlist to see them live.

Either way, I'll remain a dedicated fan.

If they break up... I'll seriously bawl my eyes out :/

Gorillaz has been one of the few bands that takes time and consideration in taking every single song to it's highest quality. It will be a shame to loose the characters but as long as the quality stays throughout Damon Albarn's music, there will be no major lose.
