Presumed to be an artistic representation of White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the painting is hardly a flattering one — especially when paired with Carrey's caption.
"This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked," he wrote on Twitter. "Monstrous!"

The response from supporters of the Trump administration was swift and vicious. See a selection of the complaints directed at Carrey below.
This is the portrait of a so-called comedian, Jim Carrey. He used to be funny. pic.twitter.com/fWv26TDBSW

Have you looked into the mirror lately @JimCarrey?Because what people see is an insane, strung out, cocaine fueled MONSTER, created by Hollyweird! It appears your depiction of our GRACIOUS BEAUTIFUL inside & out @PressSec, is really a self portrait of what you've become A/LOSER! https://t.co/pBVlariWMx

Pathetic BULLY, sexist, hater, bigot & "Christaphobe" @jimcarrey attacks @PressSec for her faith; what would be hypocritical Hollywood reaction if he called someone a "so-called Muslim" or "so-called Jew?" #classlessCarrey https://t.co/HCqHoER0Ru

Carrey's not the only comedian to come under fire for harsh criticism of the White House. Last year, Kathy Griffin was criticized for a photo that featured her holding up the bloodied head of the U.S. president. She later apologized, and claimed that she had been investigated by the secret service. Despite the controversy, her recently announced tour seems to be selling out quickly.
Of course, Trump himself has also been a vocal critic of "Alex Baldwin's" portrayal of him on the past couple seasons of Saturday Night Live.
