Though the details are still developing, it's been confirmed that longtime Posies drummer Darius Minwalla passed away yesterday (May 21) at his home in Vancouver. A cause of death has yet to be established.

News of Minwalla's death began making the rounds over social media yesterday, but the Seattle power pop outfit made an official announcement earlier this morning. You can read their statement via Facebook down below:

We cannot put off this announcement, as much as we wish to: our dear friend and drummer for the last 14 years, Darius Minwalla, died yesterday. Causes yet unknown. He was at home. He was loved very much by many people; we're still struggling to cope with the loss. I was dealing with it yesterday, hoping the news was some kind of cruel prank, but alas, no. We love you, buddy.

Minwalla had been living in Vancouver, where he previously worked as the general manager for local venue the Biltmore Cabaret. He had also been a bar manager at Seattle spot Neumo's.

Minwalla started playing drums with the Posies in 2001, replacing skinsman Brian Young. His first album with the band was 2005 comeback album Every Kind of Light. They later issued Blood/Candy together in 2010 and had maintained an off-and-on live schedule since.

Prior to his time in the Posies, Minwalla had recorded drums for Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Super Deluxe and Tiz, and had also performed with Harvey Danger and the Long Winters. Last month, he had been touring Japan as part of former Stranglers member Hugh Cornwell's backup band.
