After three streaming seasons on Disney+The Mandalorian will blast off to a bigger screen with news of a feature film treatment for the Star Wars property.

Lucasfilm has announced that series creator Jon Favreau will direct and produce The Mandalorian & Grogu, a forthcoming title the company now says will "lead Lucasfilm's ongoing feature-development slate," which includes films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold and Dave Filoni.

"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," Favreau shared in a statement. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

Set to enter production this year, The Mandalorian & Grogu will be produced by Favreau, Filoni and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who added, "Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen."
