It's been barely a year since Le Butcherettes issued Cry Is for the Flies, but now Teri "Gender Bender" Suaréz and her Mexican garage punk band are already back with a new collection. This one is called A Raw Youth, and it will be out on Ipecac Recordings on September 18.
The album features guest appearances from former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante and Stooges great Iggy Pop. Suaréz previously played with Frusciante in the side-project Kimono Kult, and his contribution is especially significant since he recently announced that he had stopped making music for public consumption.
In a statement, Suaréz said this about the new LP:
The focus of the album is the recurring conflict between minorities (the raw youths) and society: The oppressor and the oppressed. Each song is a different story of a youth from a different era. Some of them want to die because their faith in humanity has ended, some want to fight the authority, think outside themselves. "Sold Less Than Gold" reflects the story of women who are sold into marriages or into sex slavery and how resilient their spirits are. Despite the different time periods, history repeats itself. There will always be conflict and sadly, despite the rebels in our history, there are people that are zombified. A Raw Youth is an awakened collective consciousness of wanting to live and not fear death.
Le Butcherettes haven't yet released any music from A Raw Youth. In the meantime, the band are currently on tour with the Melvins, and the outing includes a couple of Ontario stops this month. Scroll past the new album tracklist to see the schedule.
