Former Red Hot Chili Pepper guitarist John Frusciante and previous Mars Volta axeman Omar Rodríguez-López have collaborated numerous times over the years, and they previously recorded a collaborative album together. Now, they have upped the ante of their partnership by starting a new band called Kimono Kult.
The Los Angeles-based six-piece are fronted by Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes and Bosnian Rainbows. Kimono Kult's EP Hiding in the Light will be out on March 4 through Neurotic Yell Records.
The four-song collection was produced by the band's own Nicole Turley, who is married to Frusciante and previously worked with him in the band Swahili Blonde. According to an announcement, the results are "electro/dub/afro-beat/avant-freak/jazz-like conversations of instrumental ecstasy."
The tracklist is below and the album cover is above. It's available to pre-order digitally over on Bandcamp; there's no indication if it will be released in a psychical format.
Thanks to Consequence of Sound for the heads-up.
