Vancouver's Delerium have been putting out music since 1987, so it's hardly surprising that some hidden gems have slipped through the cracks over the years. Now, the Bill Leeb-helmed project has compiled some of those musical treasures into the aptly titled collection Rarities & B-Sides — and Exclaim! has got your first listen.
The compilation features B-sides, re-edits and remixes of songs from across 15 years of music-making. There are also a couple of previously unreleased cuts, which, until recently, were literally buried in a box of tapes from the Chimera sessions. Engineer Greg Reely uncovered them, and they've since been reworked into the Kristy Thirsk-assisted "Ray" and the Emily Haines-featuring "Glimmer."
Elsewhere on the new record, "Send Me an Angel" gets treated to remixes twice — first by Streets of Fandango with an airy, upbeat club-friendly rework of the track, and then redone by Reely for a version dubbed the "Reely Chill Mix," which brings the piano-based bones of the song to the forefront and makes for, as you might expect, a more relaxing, laid-back listen.
Remixes and reimaginings also appear courtesy of W&W Vs. Jonas Stenberg, the Passengerz, Mr. Sams and Kim Skreech.
A treat for any followers of Delerium, the new collection breathes some new life into the long-running project and is surely a must-listen for any fan of Leeb's long, collaborative career.
