Weaves Detail Self-titled Debut LP, Share "One More"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 7, 2016

Last we heard from Toronto outfit Weaves, they were taking things in a poppier direction under the guidance of British boy band One Direction. Now, they're back to paving their own path through the oversaturated indie rock world with their own brazen brand of music, announcing the arrival of their debut LP.

The self-titled full-length follows up the band's 2014 self-titled EP and is set to land on June 17 through Buzz Records in Canada. Kanine will handle the release in the United States, while Memphis Industries will take the reins in the rest of the world.

"One More" is the group's latest single and it's a fuzzy, fast-paced burst of not-so-ordinary rock'n'roll. Frontwoman Jasmyn Burke views the track as an assertion of female independence, pushing back against the notion that all female-fronted songs have to be about pining for love. "Maybe it's going out and getting drunk, and it's not like a fairytale," she said in a press release. "Sometimes its more shitty and pizza and that's ok! That's gonna be life for a while!"

In addition to the new single, the album will also feature previously heard cuts "Tick" and "Shithole." The full set of songs has been honed over the band's two years together, "exploring every facet of their always adventurous approach to pop music."

The record was tracked with Leon Taheny (Dilly Dally, Owen Pallett), mixed by Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, At the Drive In) and mastered by John Greenham (Death Grips, Sky Ferriera).
