Ty Segall Announces 'Freedom's Goblin' LP

Plus, he's unveiled a cover of Hot Chocolate's "Every 1's a Winner"

Ty Segall has been shelling out plenty of new singles over the last little while, so it only makes sense that the dude has finally revealed plans for a new album. His latest LP is titled Freedom's Goblin, and it's set to arrive on January 26 via Drag City.

The announcement was made during Segall's appearance on CONAN last night (December 4). Host Conan O'Brien revealed the album name, release date and what and the album artwork — a far cry from the non-descript one-colour single art we've been seeing.

In addition to news of the upcoming record, Segall and the Freedom Band performed a brand new track called "Fanny Dog" that will appear on the latest LP. Previously shared tunes "The Main Pretender," "Alta," "Meaning" and "My Lady's on Fire" also made the final cut. You can watch that performance of "Fanny Dog" on CONAN over here.

Check out the full 19-song tracklisting down below. All the songs were cut at five studios in L.A., Chicago and Memphis, engineered by Steve Albini, F. Bermudez, Lawrence "Boo" Mitchell and Segall himself.

Furthermore, Segall has unveiled another cut from Freedom's Goblin, sharing his rendition of "Every 1's a Winner." The track was originally recorded by Hot Chocolate, but you can hear Segall's take on it below.

A press release described the new album like this:

The goal was getting free: embracing any approach necessary to communicate new heights and depths, seeking new places for the fuzz to land among octaving harmonies, dancefloor grooves, synths, saxes and horns, jams, post-Nicky-Hopkins r'n'b electric piano vibes, children-of-the-corn psycho-rebellions, old country waltzes and down-by-the-river shuffles. Basically, the free-est bunch of pop songs Ty's ever put on tape — free to love or to be alone; to be pretty or pretty ugly; free to turn the other cheek or to turn up the volume. And of course, free to make just about any kind of song that'll free people when they hear it — because we're ALL Goblins and we ALL want our Freedom!

Freedom's Goblin marks the follow-up to 2017's self-titled effort, though the indie rocker has since also released an EP dubbed Fried Shallots.
