Published Jan 19, 2015In 2014, songwriter Chaz Bundick took a break from Toro y Moi to release Michael, the debut album from his electronic production project Les Sins. Now, however, he's back to his main gig for a new album. What For? will be out on April 7 through Carpark Records.
We currently don't know too much about the album, but the single "Empty Nesters" can be heard below [via Pitchfork]. The single artwork is above, and Bundick had previously posted an image of the lyrics on his social media accounts. (Note the reference to Weezer's "Undone - The Sweater Song" in the first verse.)
The song sports rocking guitars and live drums, suggesting that What For? will likely emphasize the organic facets of Toro y Moi's work. It follows the 2013 album Anything in Return, which used a primarily electronic palette.
This will be Toro y Moi's fourth full-length.
Meanwhile, Bundick played bass and keys on Keath Mead's album Sunday Dinner, due out on February 24 through the Carpark sub-label Company Records. The collection was recorded at Bundick's house in Berkeley, CA.
