Tim Fite to Release New Album as Free Download in May

BY Greg PrattPublished Apr 14, 2010

Brooklyn, NY-based indie/country/hip-hop musician Tim Fite has announced some details about his upcoming record that might not have his record label, Anti-, too excited, but them's the breaks. In May, Fite will be releasing his new 14-song album, Under the Table Tennis, as a free download on his website.

This isn't Fite's first venture into the land of free digital releases: Fite's 2007 album, Over the Counter Culture, was also released as a free download. The socially conscious hip-hop release ended up being downloaded over 120,000 times. Fans of that album can expect more of the same topical lyrical fare on the new one, which is apparently inspired by tough economic times (the last disc was steeped in Bush-era sentiments).

In a press release, Anti- took the potential lack of CD sales in stride, joking that Fite's inability to earn a living with music is "reason to celebrate," because it gives people the chance to hear music like this for free. Anti- released Fite's last record, 2008's Fair Ain't Fair.

Under the Table Tennis will be available here on May 18. Fite will also be hitting the road the day before the album is released for some North American touring with the Wailing Wall, which includes a couple of Canadian shows.
