The National Tease New Music with Mysterious Trailer

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 9, 2017

The National have been hinting at the follow-up to 2013's Trouble Will Find Me for what seems like forever, even debuting new songs live last year. Now, the arena indie rockers have finally unveiled mysterious video teaser that seems to be signalling a big announcement.

The cryptic trailer boasts a 30-second clip of new music, while the accompanying visuals depict shadowy black-and-white shots of the windows on various buildings. Scrolling across the bottom of the screen are news headline-esque captions that read "Sleep Well Beast" and "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness."

The captions could well be hints at a forthcoming single or album title, but the band are letting fans bask in the anticipation a bit longer before making any official announcement.

UPDATE (5/10, 10:15 a.m. EDT): The band have unveiled another mysterious snippet via Instagram, featuring another short clip of new music and also boasting the caption "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness." Find it below.
