The National made a trip north of the border this weekend to headline a Syrian refugee benefit show in Hamilton on Friday (June 3), as well as the first night of Field Trip on Saturday (June 6).
During the band's Hamilton set, they debuted two new tunes, titled "Hague Blue" and "The Day I Die." The latter also made an appearance during their headlining slot at Field Trip, alongside another new cut dubbed "Sometimes I Don't Think."
As previously reported, the National are currently working on a follow-up to 2013's Trouble Will Find Me.
"I think what we're gonna do is write a bunch of new songs and then actually play them live a bunch next year before we record a record, just to put them through that live setting first," the National's Matt Berninger told Exclaim! earlier this year. "We've never done that before. We always write songs, record a record and then figure out how to play them live. I think we're gonna try to do it backwards this time."
Well, they've made good on that promise, and footage of "The Day I Die" and "Sometimes I Don't Think" has emerged online. You can check out some fan-shot clips of the new material in the players below.
