The 'Joker' Sequel Might Be a Musical Starring Lady Gaga

She'll reportedly be playing Harley Quinn, should she accept the role

The Joker — every Twitter user's favourite discourse-fueling clown — is returning to the big screen. A sequel to the 2019 we-live-in-a-society-core film was officially announced last week when director Todd Phillips shared a photo of a script titled Joker: Folie à Deux to his Instagram

Folie à deux (or folly of two) is a psychiatric syndrome described as a "shared psychosis." And who better for Joaquin Phoenix's Joker to share his psychosis with, you may ask? None other than Lady Gaga. And will this psychosis include singing and dancing? Yes. Yes, it will, according to The Hollywood Reporter

It was revealed yesterday that Gaga is currently in talks to play Harley Quinn in the upcoming sequel, which is also reportedly planned as a musical. How a musical starring Lady Gaga will relate stylistically to the gritty, self-serious Joker is unclear, but it is clear that Gaga's Quinn (should she accept the role) will exist in a different DC universe than Margot Robbie's Suicide Squad version of the character. Because why create something new when you can release endless movies about the same dozen characters until the end of time, right?

Details on Gaga's potential Quinn are sparse, and it's unclear if Phillips and co. will stick to the character's established mythology or strike out on their own.
