Sufjan Stevens Unveils Digital EP for Immediate Download

BY Stephen CarlickPublished Aug 20, 2010

In Exclaim's recent interview with the National's Bryce Dessner, he revealed that Sufjan Stevens had been working on a new album, so it wasn't much of a surprise when Stevens booked a North American tour just a few weeks later. Sufjan, it seems, has more tricks up his sleeve: today (August 20), he announced the release of an EP of brand new, studio-recorded music available for download right now.

Stevens's label, Asthmatic Kitty, excitedly announced the EP, titled All Delighted People, this morning, pointing to "up-and-coming-indie-DIY website" Bandcamp as the site where you can download the digital release.

The 60-minute, eight-track All Delighted People is centred upon two versions of Stevens's epic song of the same name, which is, according to his label, "a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon's 'Sounds of Silence.'" The EP also features live staple "The Owl and the Tanager" and the 17-minute "Djohariah," which is described as a "guitar jam for single mothers."

The EP was previewed on Stevens's fall 2009 North American tour, but we're betting we'll hear fuller, more complete versions on the series of tour dates below.

The EP is available as a download here right now for $5, or you could just stream it and wait for the planned CD and double-LP release of the EP later in 2010. Or you could do both.

The EP tracklist is below, followed by Stevens's upcoming North American tour dates. If you're planning on going, we'd suggest grabbing some tickets, pronto.
