Spiritualized Ink North American Deal with Fat Possum for New LP

While it's cool that the Spiritualized crew recently re-released a few of their older records, it's a bit of a drag once you remember that the space rockers haven't issued a new album since 2008. Back in 2009, band leader Jason Pierce admitted that he had begun working on the follow-up to Songs in A&E, but he didn't exactly come through on his projected delivery date of "sometime next year." In 2010, the songwriter claimed he had gone pop with his latest tunes and promised an album "next year." Well, the latest "next year" is now, and we have a bit of good news.

A press release explains that the troupe have just entered a recording studio to lay down tracks for their seventh full-length album, with the release due out sometime this fall. In North America, that as-yet-untitled album comes via new label Fat Possum, the home of acts such as Smith Westerns, Wavves and the Walkmen.

Spiritualized have also announced a show at London's Royal Albert Hall on October 11. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this is the record release party -- an extravagant one at that.

UPDATE: Outside North America, the album will be out on Domino.
