Smash Mouth

"Under Pressure" (David Bowie tribute)

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 12, 2016

The passing of rock icon David Bowie received a vast outpouring of love, proving once and for all that the artist's legacy transcended genre boundaries. It turns out, however, that an appreciation for David Bowie also transcends taste, as bright orange bowling shirt enthusiasts Smash Mouth have now paid tribute to him.

The Shrek OST mainstays uploaded a cover of Bowie and Queen's iconic "Under Pressure" to their SoundCloud. The song stays true to the original (though calling it "respectful" might be a tad over the top) as the band's soul-patched teddy bear of a frontman belts out the lyrics with his classic SoCal nasal growl.

If you'd like to hear how people with bad taste are remembering Bowie, you can listen to Smash Mouth's cover of "Under Pressure" below. There are no comments on the SoundCloud yet, but it's only a matter of time before someone writes, "OMG I love 'Ice Ice Baby.'"

As a bonus, relive one of 2015's best moments and watch Smash Mouth get pelted with bread.
