Silk Sonic "Gracefully, Humbly and Most Importantly, Sexually" Refuse Grammy Submission

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak's R&B/soul project won four Grammys at this year's awards

Silk Sonic are finally closing the door.

The goofy funk power couple of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have decided to decline to submit their beloved debut album An Evening with Silk Sonic for 2023 Grammy consideration after winning four trophies at this year's awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for hit single "Leave the Door Open" — one of Exclaim!'s 30 Best Songs of 2021.

"Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year," Mars said in a statement to Rolling Stone. "Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to 'Leave the Door Open.' Everything else was just icing on the cake. We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform — not once but twice — and awarding us at last year's ceremony. We'd be crazy to ask for anything more."

Released last November, An Evening with Silk Sonic remains eligible for submission to the 2023 Grammys, which will consider albums and songs released between October 1, 2021, and September 30, 2022. It was highly favourable for a Best R&B Album nod and even in contention for Album of the Year — and single "Smokin' Out the Window," which hit No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, could have also been in the running to repeat the sweep of "Leave the Door Open."

Only time will tell if Silk Sonic are primed to pull a Dolly Parton vs. Rock Hall and change their minds.

The full list of Grammy nominees is set to be announced on November 15, with the awards show scheduled to take place February 5, 2023.
