Sigur Rós will mark the 20th anniversary of ( ) with an expanded, remastered reissue. The Icelandic outfit will share the new edition of their third studio full-length digitally on October 27 via Krunk, ahead of physical editions arriving November 25.
Remastered by engineer Ted Jenson at Sterling Sound, the remastered ( ) includes previously unheard studio sessions of existing tracks, and a pair of B-Sides from the original "Untitled 1" single.
A previously unheard version of "Untitled 7" [aka "Dauðalagið" (The Death Song)] arrives alongside the news, and can be heard below.
Released in October 2002, ( ) was to be recorded in an abandoned NATO tracking base in northern Iceland, before Sigur Rós deemed the location impractical. The band then came upon the location they now call their Sundlaugin studio — a swimming pool built in the 1930s that they would convert into a recording space.
The expanded reissue of ( ) follows Sigur Rós' 2020 release of live recording Odin's Raven Magic, which Exclaim! rated 8/10. That year also saw the group's Jónsi deliver solo album Shiver.
Of course, Sigur Rós were also teasing a new album this past February ahead of a North American tour. Their most recent studio effort remains 2013's Kveikur.
