Sara Quin Steps Away from Tegan and Sara to Score 'The Intervention'

Professionally speaking, Sara Quin is rarely seen without her twin sister Tegan. Now, however, the Tegan and Sara songwriter has taken on a project of her own: her first-ever film score. She has composed the music for an upcoming flick titled The Intervention.

This is the directorial debut from Clea DuVall, and it's set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in early 2016. Quin explained her score with the following statement:

It was an incredibly exciting opportunity to score Clea DuVall's excellent film. The greatest challenge for me was ensuring I wasn't diminishing the impact of the clever and heartfelt dialogue spoken throughout. I enjoyed trying to marry my own pop aesthetic to a more organic instrumentation that felt appropriate to the film, and I learned a lot about subtraction and "less is more."

The Intervention is about four couples on a weekend trip. It turns out that the getaway is actually an intervention for one of the couples. The cast includes Cobie Smulders, Natasha Lyonne, Ben Schwartz, Alia Shawkat, Melanie Lynskey, Jason Ritter, Vincent Piazza and more. Director DuVall will also act in it.

Meanwhile, Tegan and Sara have a new album on the way. Less than two weeks ago, they revealed that their eighth LP is complete.

This isn't the first time that Sara Quin has taken part in a film soundtrack. Tegan and Sara wrote the song "Everything Is AWESOME!!!" (with the Lonely Island) for The Lego Movie last year.
