Sampha has shared his first solo single in over six years. "Spirit 2.0" arrives today via Young, and you can hear it alongside a visualizer below.

"Spirit 2.0" is the first music to emerge from Sampha's anticipated sophomore album, following his Mercury Prize-winning full-length debut Process.

The track features musical contributions from Canadian composer Owen Pallett, South London drummer Yussef Dayes and pop experimentalist El Guincho, with further vocals coming from Yaeji and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz of Ibeyi.

In a statement, Sampha shared that "Spirit 2.0" is "about the importance of connection to both myself and others, and the beauty and harsh realities of just existing. It's about acknowledging those moments when you need help — that requires real strength."

"I hope people can enjoy that feeling of someone being there for you, even if that person doesn't have the answers," he continues. "Just calling someone up without overthinking... letting go and just dancing... wanting to see past the mundanity of things and appreciating the magic of it all, from birds nests to spaceships."

So far in 2023, Sampha reunited with longtime collaborator SBTRKT on the producer's new album The Rat Road, and appeared on a track with Speakers Corner Quartet.

Process was voted among Exclaim!'s Best Soul and R&B Albums of 2017. Revisit Exclaim!'s interview with Sampha.
