Robert Pollard to Release Five Albums in Ten Months

BY Stephen CarlickPublished Jul 30, 2010

Nobody matches ex-Guided By Voices frontman Robert Pollard in terms of sheer recorded output; the man makes honeybees look lazy. So, it's with little more than an acknowledging smile, rather than hands-on-face shock, that we report Pollard's plan to release another five albums in the next ten months.

First up, as Pitchfork points out, is Our Cubehouse Still Rocks, from Pollard's Boston Spaceships, due September 7, on Pollard's GBV Inc. label.

And the first three months of 2011 promises more Pollard-related excitement. In January, he will release a new solo album called Space City Kicks, featuring 18 short songs on GVB Inc.; in February, a record from his Lifeguards side-project, with ex-GBV guitarist Doug Gillard, called Waving at the Astronauts, on Serious Business/Ernest Jenning Record Co.; and in March, a debut album under his Mars Classroom moniker. A whopping two months later, Pollard will have another Boston Spaceships record, titled Let It Beard, ready. The 26-track double LP will feature guitar guests J. Mascis, Wire's Colin Newman, the Dirtbombs' Mick Collins, King Missile's Dave Rick and the Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn.

Why such a spacious end to 2010, you ask? Pollard will be busy with the reunited Guided By Voices on their much-anticipated reunion tour. Those dates are here.
