Rivers Cuomo Admits He Never Actually Watched the 'SNL' Weezer Sketch

But that didn't stop the band from trying to make some profit off it

This weekend, Saturday Night Live tried its best to be actually funny with a sketch about a "ride or die" Weezer fan. Never ones to ignore a good marketing opportunity, the band quickly ushered out a T-shirt in efforts to grab a few of your dollars and cents. Well, it turns out that Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has a confession — he never actually watched the sketch.

Yes, dude didn't even watch the thing despite releasing some very IRL merch to capitalize on the SNL plug, as well as all-caps tweeting, "THEY HAD A WHOLE ASS SKIT ABOUT WEEZER AND ME ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE AND IM ACTUALLY CRYING AAAGGGGHHHHHHH."

In a Rolling Stone interview, Cuomo made the reveal about not actually watching the SNL sketch, all the while reminding us that the internet is full of lies.

"You know my Twitter, right? There's little on there that's literally true," he explained. "A lot of it is Trump-true. Like, I agree with the spirit of what I'm tweeting, but a lot of times it's not factually correct."

As previously reported, the Matt Damon-starring SNL sketch featured a fan defending the band from someone who (correctly) claims they haven't released a good album since Pinkerton. But unlike previously reported, it did not cause Rivers Cuomo to actually cry.

If you'd like to further support something that's Trump-true but not actually true, however, Weezer are still selling their SNL T-shirt over here. It's your money, after all.
