As previously reported, L.A. pop rock unit Redd Kross are delivering Researching the Blues, their first album in 15 years, through Merge Records this summer. While the August 7 street date is still a few months off, the band have let loose a preview of the platter in the form of its steady-rocking title track.
If you were hoping Steve MacDonald's tenure in OFF! would bring Redd Kross back to their punky roots, we have some bad news for you. The track, recorded by the troupe's Neurotica-era lineup, plays true to its title, featuring a grimy, distortion-saturated roadhouse riff in its verse. The Redd Kross boys, it seems, have been brushing up on the fundamentals. Things do get noticeably sparkly and jangly for the chorus, though.
