Canadian techno legend Plastikman and Montreal-born Grammy-winning pianist Chilly Gonzales — born Richie Hawtin and Jason Charles Beck, respectively — have teamed up on a new collaborative album and shared first single "Contain (In Key)."

Consumed in Key will be released on April 1 via Secret City Records. It's a reimagining of Plastikman's 1998 magnum opus Consumed, which became an instigator in the minimalist movement and a touchstone of influence for artists of all genres and mediums — including Gonzales, who heard it for the first time shortly after the record celebrated its 20th anniversary.

According to a press release, Gonzales felt that Consumed's loose use of melody and negative space threatened his musical sensibility, alongside its unique timing structure and flow fuelling his curiosity. It inspired the musician to compose accompanying piano pieces as counterparts for each of the tracks. Instead of a remix, it's one composer reacting to another's already-completed work.

Facilitated by mutual friend and visionary co-producer Tiga, Gonzales recorded his interpretations alone before Plastikman came on board to mix the new combined songs.

Consumed in Key follows Plastikman's 2015 EX Club Mixes EP, while Gonzales released his holiday album A very chilly Christmas in 2020.
