"Runnin'" / "Surrender"

Hat-wearing hitmaker Pharrell hasn't released an album of his own since 2014's G I R L, but he has been popping up on cuts from the likes Skepta and Missy Elliott. Now, he's unveiled the first piece of music from his Hidden Figures soundtrack with a track titled "Runnin.'"
 
As previously reported, the film tells the story of three African-American women who provided NASA with mathematical info that proved instrumental in the success of their first space missions. It stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe, as well as Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Kevin Costner.
 
"This is an extraordinary story about black women with genius mathematical minds who contributed to American history," Pharrell said in a previous statement. "It takes place in Virginia, my home state, and at NASA, a place I've been obsessed with since childhood."
 
You can now hear his appreciation for the movie get translated into some accompanying music by taking "Runnin'" and "Surrender" out for a spin below.
 
Hidden Figures is slated to hit theatres on January 13.
