Pharrell to Produce and Write Original Music for Upcoming Drama 'Hidden Figures'

No stranger to letting his worlds of music and film collide, it has been revealed that multitalented producer and musician Pharrell is set produce and write original music for the upcoming drama Hidden Figures.

Variety reports that Williams will oversee the score, soundtrack and all of the film's additional musical elements. Donna Gigliotti, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Ted Melfi are also producing, with Melfi also handling directorial duties.

Hidden Figures tells the story of a trio of African-American women who provided NASA with important mathematical information to launch the first successful space missions. The film will star Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and neo-soul sensation Janelle Monáe, along with Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Kevin Costner. 

"After my producing partner Mimi Valdés and I heard about this project, we basically begged the producers and studio to allow us to participate," Williams told Variety. "This is an extraordinary story about black women with genius mathematical minds who contributed to American history. It takes place in Virginia, my home state, and at NASA, a place I've been obsessed with since childhood."

Hidden Figures is scheduled for release in theatres on January 13, 2017, through 20th Century Fox. Outside of his film work, Pharrell will also be lending his talents to the upcoming LP from French electronic duo Cassius
