Peter Buck

"10 Million BC"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 15, 2012

Earlier this year, we learned that former R.E.M. six-stringer Peter Buck was prepping his first-ever solo LP, and now we have the first grimy preview of the seemingly garage rock-geared set. Buck's Baseball Project  band buddy Steve Wynn is the one to thank for "10 Million BC," as he recently premiered the track during a guest spot on Jersey City, NJ station WFMU.

Not a jangly Rickenbacker lick is to be heard on the fuzzy face-melter, which spikes trashy "Garbage Man"-era Cramps rhythms with bubble-gummy, Archies-styled "ooh la las." We're not 100 percent sure if that's Buck doing his best Wolfman Jack impersonation on the cut, but those decrepit and croaky vocals will do just fine, thank you very much.

Despite the leaked number, there's still no word on when Buck's album will arrive.
