Canadian rock duo Partner have been awarded the 2018 SOCAN Songwriting Prize for their In Search of Lost Time track "Play the Field."

In addition to the prestigious title, Partner's Josée Caron and Lucy Niles will take home a $10,000 cash prize, a Yamaha PSR-S970 keyboard and a $500 gift card for Long & McQuade.

A list of 10 finalists was announced last month, with the winner ultimately decided through a fan voting process.

"We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our families, friends, and supporters who voted for us every day," Caron and Niles wrote in a caption for a thank you video.

"It is very touching to see all the enthusiasm you have for our song and we appreciated every vote and share. To be recognized by fellow music lovers in this capacity is a dream come true."

Partner beat out fellow nominees Alvvays, the Beaches, Charlotte Cardin, Jessie Reyez, James Barker Band, Weaves, Iskwé and Casper Skulls. You can revisit the video for the winning tune "Play the Field" below.

Francophone MC Loud captured the Prix de la chanson SOCAN for his song "56K."

Last year's SOCAN Songwriting Prize was awarded to Toronto punks PUP.
