Non La, the indie pop songwriting project of Vancouver's DJ On, has signed with Mint Records and shared a new non-album single. A video for "Homes" is out now.
"Homes" is a climactic ballad in which On's whisper-soft, deep croon is accompanied by a sparse arrangement of gentle electric strums, eventually bursting into a grungy crescendo in the final passage.
"'Homes' was born out of a need for catharsis," On explained in a statement. "The song is about the complex feelings at the end of a relationship. Though I have hurt and resentment I feel for the other person, I still hope that things could turn around and that the relationship could be somewhat repaired. Though not on the album, this song is a small peek of the direction that I'm taking Non La."
The accompanying video, directed by _MR_, chronicles the heartbroken end of a relationship — but also captures the many sweet, joyful moments from before the breakup.
Non La's upcoming album will be the follow-up to 2020's Not in Love.
