Listen to 's u r r e n d e r,' the New Album from Princess Century

Princess Century — the techno project of Canadian musician and producer Maya Postepski, known for her work with AustraTR/ST and Peaches — returns today with her sophomore album s u r r e n d e r via Paper Bag Records.

Led by the singles "Still the Same," "Stupid Things" featuring Fragrance and "Desperate Love," the follow-up to 2016's Rendezvous EP and debut 2015 Princess Century LP Progress navigates through a 12-track zero-gravity chasm of pure electronic emotion.

The globetrotting album was written between eastern Estonia, Berlin and Morocco before Postepski spent a two-month residency in Narva, Russia, and a month living in a tent in the Sahara Desert. s u r r e n d e r was recorded in Berlin at Riverside Studios with Brazilian engineer Julia Borelli.

"It's a feeling album, not a thinking album," Postepski explained in a statement. "I've always been hiding in the back behind a band or behind a singer; it's my first step into a more vulnerable and exposed place, which I'm finally okay with for the first time in my adult life. I guess I stopped caring about being shy or being insecure, or hiding who I am."

She added, "I don't like to be in the limelight, but life is short and I guess I should share who I am eventually. I play drums and synths, so those are my worlds," which she invites us into on the record's pattern-based synthetic soundscapes.

The album leans heavily into minimalism and repetition, where Postepski looked to American composer Steve Reich — alongside Róisín Murphy and saxophonist Jorja Chalmers — for inspiration.
