Wannabe-Winnipegger, Steely Dan hater and Against Me! legend Laura Jane Grace returns today with "Dysphoria Hoodie" — the first single from the musician and activist's forthcoming new album.

It marks the first new music from Grace since the surprise-released 2021 EP, At War with the Silverfish and 2020's likewise-surprise Stay Alive. The artist's next collection will inevitably be less unexpected, since press materials make it clear that "Dysphoria Hoodie" is the first offering from a new studio record.

"This is a song about gender dysphoria and your favourite hooded sweatshirt," Grace explained in a statement. "Any trans person out there knows what a dysphoria hoodie is — it's the hoodie you wear when feeling low and dysphoric and you don't want the world reading your gender. Hide your body shape, hide your head, disappear as much as you can. Wrap yourself up in it like a blanket anywhere you go. Make your flesh become cotton. Instant protection from the outside world. My dysphoria hoodie happens to be an Adidas hoodie, so yes, this is in fact really just a tribute song to my favourite Adidas hoodie."

Pull tight the drawstrings with the scrappy, soothing track below.
