Kittie's Morgan Lander Has a "Whole Phone Full of Riffs," Eyes 2024 for New Music

"We definitely won't stop playing shows"

After revealing earlier this year that she and Ontario-bred metal vets Kittie had been heading into rehearsals for the first time in five years, vocalist Morgan Lander has shed some light on the band's plans for new music.

Speaking with The MetalSucks Podcast, the singer-guitarist explained that getting the band back together for a string of festival dates this year has inspired her to toy with the idea of recording new music. However, plans for an official release remain pretty loose.

"I have a whole phone full of riffs that I'm, like, 'I think I could probably use these,'" Lander explained [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. "And preparing for these shows has obviously opened up that door a little more and sort of motivated me to do that stuff — be more creative and write. But I don't have a deadline."

She elaborated:

I feel like it's tough to focus on getting back up to speed with the tour and then also write at the same time. Everybody's navigating their jobs and family stuff and all that, so that's always tough. So I feel like it's kind of like one focus at a time. But we definitely won't stop playing shows. I think we'll be really choosy about doing some festivals and things like that. But I do have maybe kind of a skeleton timeline I'd like to have some of these ideas put forth by. I think new music in 2024 would be really cool.

In addition to eyeing 2024 for the release of new tunes, Lander has also set her sights on re-recording debut album Spit for its 25th anniversary, which it will be celebrating in 2025. "I think with the musicianship now and how we all kind of sound and jell, I think it could be a really interesting exercise," she said.

Lander had previously hinted that the band would reunite for live shows beyond their appearances at September's Blue Ridge Rock Festival and When We Were Young festival in October. So far, the band have yet to announce any Canadian tour dates.
