Kittie's "Eyes Wide Open" is a raring return; a straight-ahead crusher from a group ready to sink their claws into this world once more. Beyond proving the self-assessment of "1,200 percent bangers" to be correct, the band's first single in 13 years gives a glimpse at their renewed visceral vision.

Vocalist Morgan Lander finds "wisdom in clarity" over brawny riffage on the fire-lit path forward, howling, "Second sight has set me free / I was blind but now I see" before the band let loose in the bridge section. More material with producer Nick Raskulenicz — known to bring the best out of fellow heavies like Deftones, Alice in Chains and Trivium — will undoubtedly spark an inferno.
