Kittie Share First New Song in 13 Years

Hear the quartet's single "Eyes Wide Open"

Over the weekend, Kittie posted a cryptic teaser on social media: an eight-second video clip of a black, throne-esque chair in front of a red curtain, accompanied by audio of a beating heart, with the words "COMING SOON" appearing after the image fades to black. And unlike most of the time when musicians say something is coming soon, this actually is — the London, ON-formed band's first new song in 13 years is premiering tomorrow (February 13) on SiriusXM.

UPDATE (2/14, 11:52 a.m. ET): "Eyes Wide Open" has now been released through the band's new label home, Sumerian Records.

“Our first new material in 13 years, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a vision quest for truth,” vocalist/guitarist Morgan Lander said of the Nick Raskulinecz-produced song, which you can check out below. “It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance to reveal one’s true motives. ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a lesson in trust, betrayal and ultimately the ability to see behind the curtain to reveal all. It was one of the first songs we wrote, coming together again after a long time away from creating, and I think you can really hear the fires reigniting in this track.”

The news was shared by Liquid Metal host Jose Manquin, who revealed that the quartet's single, "Eyes Wide Open," is getting its world premiere on the radio program. It enters circulation at midnight and will be played during every hour of tomorrow's programming. Based on subsequent social posts from the band, it seems like the song might be looking at a digital release on Wednesday (February 14).

Kittie's last album of new material remains 2011's I've Failed You. The band shared that they were rehearsing together for the first time in five years back in 2022. Since then, they've played a few festivals, and founding sisters Morgan and Mercedes Lander have hinted that 2024 will be the year we finally get to hear new music from them — and it's going to be "1,200 percent bangers."
