Julian Casablancas Teases New Voidz Album

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Dec 8, 2017

Julian Casablancas may be best known for fronting the Strokes, but he's released a solo album and an LP with the Voidz. Now, the latter are back with a new name and a promise of new material.

Formerly Julian Casablancas + the Voidz, they're just going by the Voidz now — though Casablancas remains the bandleader. The group made the announcement via Facebook video this morning (December 8).

The clip sees the band members disturbing the audience during the screening of fictional film Sly Boots + the Last Blood Rites of the Crystal Mindgoblet. The band feature prominently in the movie on the big screen, but their performance does not leave anyone particularly impressed.

The real excitement starts when they leave the cinema, announcing the name switch and promising a new album in 2018 via Cult Records.

Let's just hope the ensuing record is a bit more entertaining than the film presentation of Sly Boots + the Last Blood Rites of the Crystal Mindgoblet.

The upcoming LP will mark Casablancas's second with the Voidz, following up 2014's Tyranny. Watch the aforementioned trailer below.
