Jenny Berkel has returned with details of a new album. The Ontario singer-songwriter and poet will share These Are the Sounds Left from Leaving on May 13 via Outside Music.

These Are the Sounds Left from Leaving, Berkel's third studio album, finds the artist co-producing alongside Dan Edmonds and Ryan Boldt of the Deep Dark Woods. The 10-song release follows 2016's Pale Moon Kid, which was produced by Daniel Romano.

"I wrote the album in a tiny apartment, at a time when everything felt big and overwhelming," Berkel shared of her latest. "The songs themselves are a study of proximity, bringing big fears into small spaces. They're intimate examinations of a world that often overwhelms."

String arrangements on the album come from Colin Nealis (Andy Shauf), while Kacy & Clayton lend a hand with first single "You Think You're Like the Rain," Berkel's "lyrical examination of sadness and hope," which can be heard alongside an accompanying Meg Hubley-directed video below.

In 2021, Berkel released poetry chapbook Grease Dogs via London, ON, publisher Baseline Press. The year also saw her treat Pale Moon Kid to a digital reissue and its first-ever vinyl release.

These Are the Sounds Left from Leaving is now available to pre-save.
