Jenny Berkel

"Wealth in the Country"

Jenny Berkel is set to release her first LP for Pheromone RecordingsPale Moon Kid, in just under a month. Ahead of the record's arrival, the songwriter has shared another taste of what's to come musically with "Wealth in the Country."

According to Berkel, the song's inspiration came from a stormy autumn season spent on a scenic farm in Southern Ontario. "The farm was on the very outskirts of the city; to get there, you had to drive down this little gravel road with a high bridge to get over the train tracks," she said in a statement. "From the top of the bridge, you could see the shape of the suburbs, but from the bottom, you could feel completely enclosed by the forest and fields. The images in this song come from my time there. I love how we recorded this — at its heart, it's very much a folk song, but the production shifts it into a new and exciting direction."

Pale Moon Kid is set to arrive on April 15, around which Berkel has scheduled a handful of tour dates with more to be announced. Find out where you can catch her live and listen to "Wealth in the Country" in the player below.
