Mark "Bez" Berry, who made his living as the dancer and percussionist for British alt-rockers the Happy Mondays, has been convicted of physically assaulting his then-girlfriend in their Manchester home.
According to a report from the Press Associate [via NME], Berry accused his girlfriend Monica Ward of stealing money from him after a gig last spring. He then reportedly fell into a rage, wrapped his hands around her neck and throttled her. He then allegedly threatened to hill her.
Monica Ward, a former model, explained herself, saying, "He accused me of stealing money which I did not. I told him he had put down the money somewhere and forgotten where he had put it, he has a history of mislaying things."
In a court hearing earlier this year, Berry claimed he acted in self defence, and called the hearing a "kangaroo court." Despite his best efforts, he was convicted of assault, and will be sentenced on August 25.
