Usually the visit to church comes after the trip to the bar at the weekend, but, this being Halifax Pop Explosion, things are a little different. Having played to a packed out St. Matthew's United Church the night before, Great Lake Swimmers' Tony Dekker and his band turned in a perfectly paced mid-afternoon surprise set in the dimly lit bar of the Seahorse Tavern. The group seemed in great spirits as they explored their back catalogue, welcoming Wayne Petti of Cuff the Duke onstage for a duet before bringing the afternoon set to a close with a decidedly rocking finale. Great Lake Swimmers proved themselves to be equally at home getting down and dirty in a bar as in the more rarefied halls in which they now perform.
