Things seemed to have been looking up for Ellie Goulding, who finally released her postponed album Higher Than Heaven to generally positive critical reception in April. But with previous hit songs in her catalogue called both "Burn" and "Lights," it seems darkly ironic that the pop star would soon go on to have a close call with a firework while performing at Portsmouth, UK's Victorious Festival over the weekend.

A fan-shot clip of Goulding singing her recent Calvin Harris collaboration (and potential additional titular harbinger of doom) "Miracle" at the fest has made the rounds on the internet. Goulding gets a little too close to part of her onstage pyrotechnics, and a firework can be seen shooting up and plausibly nicking her.

The artist quickly moves away and seemingly reacts by exclaiming, "Fuck!" before carrying on the performance like a total pro. But imagine that? All it takes to startle some of us is our phones ringing.

She took to social media to address the incident, letting her fans know that she's doing okay in the aftermath. "To those asking I am ok!" she wrote in a since-disappeared Instagram Story post [via Rolling Stone]. "Pyro didn't hit me in the face. Face is intact. Love you thank you."

See, kids? This is why we shouldn't throw things at performers! They're already ducking and weaving away from pyrotechnics, sweating it out under stage lights in extreme temperatures and, according to Miley Cyrus and Grimes, having their humanity erased by subject-observer power dynamics. Hopefully Goulding will have a far less eventful final festival performance in Germany next month, as well a singe-free headlining European tour in October.
