Digawolf Reveals Stunning Visuals For New Single "Seiga Dahte," Announces New Album

It will be his first Tlicho language LP in over ten years

Yellowknife's Digawolf has shared the details of his forthcoming album and the video for his first single "Seiga Dahte."

Seeking a different sound for the upcoming album, the singer-songwriter linked up with Toronto-based producer Jason Spanu for a unique fusion of sound that represents walking in two worlds. All of the songs on the record — which has yet to be given a release date — are written in Tlicho (Dogrib), making this Digawolf's first LP in written in the language in the 10-plus years since his 2012 release, Naka De.

With its titular sentiment translating to "Friend, how are you?", the single follows the artist's 2020 pandemic lockdown LP High Arctic and his 2019 album Yellowstone, which earned him a Juno nomination for Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year in 2020.

The song follows a man who's been away for years, then meets with a childhood friend upon returning home. The two talk and share what's been happening in their lives, and the friend reveals that there is nothing for them in their community anymore; his family and childhood home are gone, he has no education and can barely speak English.

"Exchanging smokes, some coins and a tear, they continue on their separate ways, never to see each other again," Diga explained in a statement. "I write this song in hope that things will change, and that we can work towards a better future. I want to see more support given to people like the characters in this song."
