Diamond Rings' John O'Regan Reemerges as JG Ballad

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 20, 2017

John O'Regan has been an active member of the Canadian music community for years, as part of the D'Urbervilles, Habitat and, of course, Diamond Rings. And while we haven't heard much out of Diamond Rings since 2013's Free Dimensional, O'Regan has been busy making music under yet another moniker.

As Brooklyn Vegan points out, O'Regan has been releasing new songs under the guise of JG Ballad on SoundCloud. There are currently five tracks available, uploaded to the streaming platform over the course of the last two years.

The most recent one is a thumping, bass and synth-driven electro jam called "Weight of the World," though it was preceded by other equally rave-ready cuts like a cover of "Bette Davis Eyes," "Shine a Light," "Diamond Dancer" and "Wonderful Life." Each track is accompanied by monochromatic black-and-white album artwork.

To date, O'Regan has played one live gig under his new name; JG Ballad delivered a DJ set at this past September's Supercrawl in Hamilton.
