Deep Dark Woods Frontman Ryan Boldt Reissues Solo Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 31, 2015

Ryan Boldt serves as singer and guitarist for rootsy Saskatoon band the Deep Dark Woods, and last fall, he went solo for the LP Broadside Ballads. Almost a year later, that album is now set to get a wider release via a new reissue.

The re-release will be out on October 9 through Big White Cloud Records (with distribution by Outside Music). For the vinyl edition, it will be pressed on 180-gram wax and housed in a gatefold jacket. It will also be available digitally or on CD in a digipak.

A prior announcement on the Deep Dark Woods' website noted that the album is "made up of nine traditional songs from North America and the British Isles." They were recorded by Jody Weger, with sessions in the towns of Beresford and Rivers, MB, and Mortlach, SK. Boldt played guitar, vocals, bass and drums, while his Deep Dark Woods bandmate Clayton Linthicum contributed guitar, banjo, keys and more.

See the tracklist below; the opening cut "Love Is Pleasin'" can be heard at the bottom of the page. The album can be pre-ordered over on Bandcamp.

Boldt is set to tour behind the record this fall, though the dates have yet to be announced.
